The Dream Get-Away Honeymoon

Since Eric & I bought a home and helping to pay for half the wedding, we originally weren't going to get the fabulous honeymoon as I had dreamed of. Shall I say what our choices were?
.....Hm how about not, let's just say they were a little too close to home!

But after giving it some thought, I didn't see why we had to go on our honeymoon right after the wedding. You only get married once (well...in our case anyway), so a honeymoon shouldn't be second rate. We both decided we wanted our honeymoon to be super special, and because we've been working our tooshes off since we've graduated high school - by gosh we deserve it!

So we're postponing our honeymoon until May of 2010, recuperating our savings, and going on a 12 day Mediterranean Cruise! I have always dreamed of going to Europe and touring Italy, Greece, & France - AND what better way to tour a bunch of awesome cities / sites in a handful of different countries than to go on a cruise? Win-win is it not?

So now that it's decided on - I've been researching cruises, excursions, sites, etc like a mad woman! Here is the proposed cruise plan:

Departure Port - Venice, Italy (staying here for 2 days!)

Ports-of-call:

Venice (of course)
Split, Croatia
at sea for a day
Athens (Piraeous), Greece
Santorini, Greece
at sea for a day
Naples/Capri, Italy (streets of Pompei HERE I COME!)
Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy
Nice (Villefranche), France
at sea for a day
Barcelona, Spain

Day at Sea Activities I want do:

Wine Workshop
Day at the Spa

After researching and talking with other people who have traveled to these countries, we decided that May is the best time to go on our Cruise because it gets VERY hot in the summer months - very uncomfortable. A lot of shops also close down in August vacations & *dun dun dunn* tourism season begins in June and goes until end of September - EEK!

Important Things to Pack

- Good walking shoes / hiking shoes (by gosh I'm hiking Pompei!)
- Something to wear to the Vatican - you're not allowed near it in shorts & tanktops. (shoulders and knees have to be covered)

- I got a hot tip that a Money Belt is a great investment. It's safer and can be concealed under your waistline and the b
est part - they're not the cheesy, tourist labeling fanny pack *ick*
- Ginger Pills (for sea sickness, lord have mercy)
- Over the door shoe rack to hang outside cabin’s closet or bathroom door for toiletries and other items. A girl who has been on this cruise told me that this is a wonderful idea because European rooms don't have much counterspace
- Hat to save my hair from all the pigeons in Venice!

...Planning a Wedding, A Life, & Realizing being Grown-up is Awesome

As of today, I have exactly 174 days to go! Oh my -
It seems just last week I had a whole year!
I'd ask where all the time has gone but I'd secretly be answering that question myself. Because I KNOW where all my time has gone. Buying a house (so worth it), graduating school (worth it), planning a wedding, and dreaming up my honeymoon. It's a lot to take in, believe me - life has been so comfortable for me so long and now I've got big grown up changes happening all over. I won't lie, it is a little scary but I also find it liberating :) My big girl pants are getting filled (and thank goodness not literally - because I've got a dress to fit into!!!)
